The University of Greater Manchester is pleased to confirm the next delivery of its Coronial Law short course, commencing Thursday, 12 February 2026.

Short Course on Coronial Law

The Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law at the University of Greater Manchester is delighted to offer once again this highly regarded course for practitioners working in, alongside, or aspiring to join the coronial service.

The course equips participants with both the legal foundations and the practical, applied understanding needed to navigate coronial investigations and inquests.  It focuses on how coronial law operates in practice, including structured scenario-based learning to develop confidence in real casework.

Delivered by highly experienced practitioners, the course has a strong practical emphasis and will support participants who may be appearing in, attending, or preparing work for coronial courts, including those managing inquest-related fatalities

This is a course about coroners and coronial practice, rather than a course solely for coroners (except perhaps the newly appointed). It is particularly suited to those who may benefit professionally, including coroner’s officers, aspiring applicants for coronial roles, hospital coronial liaison staff, legal representatives, and others involved in the inquest process.

Delivery and Fees

All seven sessions are delivered via MS Teams from 18:00 to 20:30 on alternate Thursday evenings.
The cost is £50 per session or £300 for the complete course.
