Cumbria Coroner Area Recruitment day03/01/2026

HM Coroner Cumbria will be running a recruitment competition for two Assistant Coroners in 2026.

To support potential applicants, HM Senior Coroner will be a holding a "recruitment day" at the new Coroner's Court in Workington on Friday 13 February 2026 from 10:00 to 14:30.

The event is aimed to help applicants understand the "non-inquest" work of a Coroner, particular challenges for HMC Cumbria, working relationships and the application process. The outline timetable (subject to change) is:

The work of a Coroner.

HM Coroner Cumbria – particular challenges for the Service.

Working with the responsible local authority.

Role of the Coroner's Officer.

Applying and application forms, including drafting a Supporting Statement.

Preparing for interview.

Tour of the new Court facilities.

Speakers will include HM Senior Coroner, HM Area Coroner, members of the Coroner's Team and the local responsible authority.  Lunch and light refreshments will be included. There will be an opportunity to view the new facilities and speak to Coroners and the Coroners' Team.

Attendance is in person only. Due to the nature of this event, Teams attendance is not possible.

Spaces are strictly limited in number and to those who meet the eligibility criteria for application for Assistant Coroner.
