Fee Paid Part-time

Approximately £420 per day for Inquests

Oxfordshire County Council is seeking to appoint 2 Fee Paid Assistant Coroners to support the Senior Coroner across the full range of coroner duties in order to deliver a high-quality coroner service to the people of Oxfordshire. Applications are encouraged from all suitably qualified barristers or solicitors with a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience and subject to the appointment and eligibility conditions within the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (s.23 and Schedule 3).

You will be required to demonstrate knowledge and experience of coronial law, knowledge of basic medicine, have proven skills in conducting investigations and a good understanding of court procedure. You will also need to demonstrate the excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal with sensitive situations.  We are looking for exceptional candidates with proven organisational skills to work closely with the Senior Coroner and Oxfordshire County Council to achieve performance and financial efficiencies.  A working knowledge of IT is also a requirement.

Successful applicants must undertake training and provide some out of hours service.  An Assistant Coroner is an independent judicial office holder, appointed by Oxfordshire County Council but is not an employee of the Council.  Remuneration is in accordance with JNC 61 and 62 and on a fee paid basis with adjustments made for half days and non-court days/working remotely.  It would be beneficial if the successful candidates reside within a reasonable commutable distance from the office.
