Implementation of the Coroner and Justice ACt 2009

The MOJ have today published the Government's response to the recent consultation on implementing the coroner reforms in Part 1 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.

The consultation sought views on proposed coroner investigation regulations, inquest rules, fee and allowance regulations, coroner areas, and statutory guidance for bereaved people.

The consultation response document summarises the views we received in response to the consultation and explains the changes we are making as a result. It is available at https://consult.justice.gov.uk/digital-communications/coroner-reforms.

The final drafts of the rules and regulations and other orders (known as statutory instruments) were presented to Parliament today .  These have been approved by the Chief Coroner and signed by the Lord Chancellor and Lord Chief Justice as appropriate and will be available later today on-line at http://www.legislation.gov.uk/.

The statutory instruments should, subject to Parliamentary scrutiny, come into force 21 days from today.

The 2009 Act reforms and the rules and regulations are expected to come into force on 25 July.
