His Honour Judge Reg Lockett

His Honour Judge Reginald Lockett ("Reg" to his friends and colleagues) died after a short illness at his home in Bolton on Sunday last.

Judge Lockett served as Senior Circuit judge in Preston for 18 years. He was one of the first full-time solicitor judges and the only solicitor Recorder of Preston. He became a solicitor in 1957 and also served as a coroner. Reg was an Honorary member of the Society.

In 1970 he was appointed District Registrar at Manchester County Court and subsequently Recorder at the Crown Court, Circuit Judge assigned to the Northern Circuit, Honorary Recorder of Preston and Senior Circuit Judge.

After his retirement in 1999 he continued in roles in the Boys' Brigade where he had served as Brigade Honorary President.

He was well respected and very popular. He leaves a wife, Edna and family.
